News from the groups

Peer Support Network

The group meets every other Thursday at the United Reformed Church – 10-12pm – all welcome. Next meetings: 1st March, 15th March.

5 Boroughs Joint Service User Carer Forum

The next meeting on 1st March will be in St Helens at the URC. Meetings are 1-4pm with lunch provided from 12.30pm. Travel expenses are paid on the day to people who use services and carers. There is always an opportunity to “take it to the top” where the Chief Executive or a Director answers questions. All welcome.

No Secrets

They have been supported by 5 Boroughs to offer a group around self-harm in each of the Boroughs. The St Helens group meets every Wednesday at Millennium House, Bickerstaffe St, 6-8pm. Contact is Tina on 07863 736647. The Knowsley group now meets every Tuesday 3-5pm at the Dudley Wallis Centre, Delph Lane, Whiston.

Butterfly Ball

25th February – 7.30pm to midnight at St Michael’s Parish Hall, Burtonwood WA5 4PS. Live music, disco, buffet and raffle. All money raised will go to Mind St Helens. Tickets £10 for adults. £7.50 for concessions. Email jade@bfest.org or phone 07709042187 or visit http://www.bfest.org

Wellbeing Project

They want their next roadshows to focus on service-users’ experiences of stigma and the positive steps they’ve taken to overcome it. Volunteers will produce work highlighting the journey through stigma and positive outcomes, through art/poetry/crafts, or wherever their skills lie.

There is an Initial Planning Meeting on Monday 20th February 2012 at 1.00pm at Tontine House. Please contact them on carolwellbeing@gmail.com or telephone 01744 26444.

Welfare Reform Bill

This is reaching the end stages of discussion in Parliament. This stage is called ‘ping pong’ where it goes between the Commons and Lords until they agree. There has been a lot of disappointment that the Commons refused the Lords Amendments using financial privilege.

We did not have a formal meeting in December. Oasis had a great Xmas party as always – thanks to together and the volunteers for organising it all.

This is now at the report stage in the House of Lords. You can watch the debates live on parliament tv online. Disability Living Allowance (DLA) will be discussed on 17th January.
